MAKING IT FEEL LIKE HOME
July 16 Saturday 2005

As I said in a previous entry, I never really appreciated how difficult it is buying furniture and appliances for an empty flat. Well I do now.

I've spent hours standing in the middle of my apartment trying to "imagine" different themes, styles and set-ups. I've spent entire afternoons crawling around with a tape measure and delving into various catalogues and brochures. And then there's the task of actually purchasing the goods. I don't think I've ever spent so much money in such a short space of time... it's not exactly easy.

But the hardest part of all is this: waiting for furniture to actually arrive. I really want to get my apartment set-up before life starts getting busy - I'm so impatient sometimes. I'm also aware of that longing inside me that just wants to have a place to call "home", and right now, this empty pad just doesn't feel like it.

But that's beginning to change. It took three long weeks of sitting on my floor, but my sofa has finally arrived. I'm so happy. Of course my sofa feels rather vacant without anybody sitting on it; it's my friends that complete the picture. And in a much broader sense, its my friends that make Hong Kong feel like home anyway. They're awesome.
