HILLSONG UNITED IN HONG KONG

2005

"The Vine is proud to present Hillsong United Live in Hong Kong. As part of Hillsong United's Asia/Europe tour they will be stopping off in HK for one night only".

... and what a night. I was given the job of ushering people to their seats at the very front. In other words, I got to stand at the foot of the stage all night long. It was fantastic.

I've been listening to the United Live CD's for years, been watching their DVD's and playing their songs ever since I picked up a guitar - but this was something else. I really can't describe how wonderful it was witnessing these guys being totally sold out for God; walking in their anointing; and blessing the youth of Hong Kong in such a tremendous way.

The turn out was simply overwhelming and the auditorium was packed within minutes of opening. And so it upsets me when I hear people criticise The Vine because we had to turn hundreds of people away. Of course it's a shame that not everybody who wanted to see United Live could get in; but that doesn't warrant some of the comments that I've heard.

I find it incredible that individuals (and it is only a few individuals) are so ready to point their fingers and speak such negativity when they haven't got a clue about what they're talking about. But perhaps that very ignorance is why they say such things.

I don't intend on giving these comments anymore time or thought. I just want to thank God for making the entire night possible. The Vine had less than one month to organize this event. It's almost impossible to book an uptown restaurant one month in advance, let alone an entire auditorium... but God provided.

And I would venture to say that this is the first time (in a long time anyway) that an Internationally recognised Christian Act has come to Hong Kong. I honestly believe that this event has opened up the gates to so much more. Hong Kong is now on the world map - I see the likes of Delirious, Matt Redman and Tim Hughes gracing our city in the near future - isn't that exciting? God is good.
