ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU
December 24 Saturday 2005

In a spur of the moment decision (most probably induced by extreme exam stress) I volunteered to be on the dance team for the Vine’s Primetime Christmas Pageant. The lyrics, “I will dance, I will sing to be mad for my King”, spring to mind.

As my closest friends will testify I'm not bestowed with the gift of dance. In fact I tend to resemble a soldier being peppered by machine gun fire more than anything else. So in an attempt to mask my poor co-ordination, I put great effort into acting like a “pre-madonna” in the hope of looking somewhat satirical - a ploy I pulled at school discos when I was a gawky teenager.  Big mistake.

Having reviewed the video, I actually look like I’m trying to dance sincerely… thus looking like a complete pre-madonna, who furthermore, can’t dance to save his life! So now whenever I hear Mariah Carey singing, "All I Want For Christmas Is You", I can't help but blush.

Anyhow, the show must go on, and after we finished the dance, the pageant really kicked off with the Primetime kids telling us what Christmas is really all about.

The drama was top-notch, we have so many gifted actors and performers in our church. It's wonderful seeing people of all ages, nationalities and walks of life, coming together to bring glory to God - especially during a season that has become so commercial.

The highlight for me was the sharp-witted take on the nativity scene from the perspective of the animals. The costumes were pretty slick, and all the little angels looked simply, well... "angelic".

There must have been around 30-40 kids in this years Christmas Pageant... a tribute to how God has been growing this church. It was only a couple of years ago that there were hardly a dozen children meeting in the basement of the Regal Hotel... God is so good.
