MARK ROTHKO - UNTITLED 1956
June 13 Tuesday 2006

The Art of Mark Rothko: Selections form the National Gallery of Art. This wonderful exhibition has been in town for the past month, and I’ve been itching to take a look. If you've got time, you should check out the NGA Rothko website, it provides a really good oversight of all his major works.

Rothko is by far one of my favourite abstract expressionists (along with Kandinsky and Klee). Although Untitled 1956 is not my favourite painting by Rothko, it was definitely my favourite on the day.

Of course looking at this splendid work of art on a computer screen is not ideal; but when standing right in front of the actual canvas I was blown away. I honestly couldn't take my eyes off it, it was simply irresistable... if only everything else in life looked this good.
