THANK YOU CINDY CRAWFORD A little while back, I wrote here about why I keep an online journal. Well I’ve just been asked what started me off, and in short, my reply would have to be Cindy Crawford. Picture this: an adolescent boy who every weekend, before his parents woke up, ran downstairs to thumb through the pages of the Sunday magazine in the hope of finding the object of his desires modeling some brand of watch / perfume / necklace, and which if found, sticking it up on his bedroom wall, despite having no interest in that product whatsoever. Well that teenager was me. So imagine my delight when we got the internet installed at my house... oh boy. It didn't take long until I had trawled through the web for every picture, clip, article and interview I could find on Cindy Crawford. This was about the time Geocities started offering free webspace - and with what can only be described as a "labour-of-love", I constructed my first ever website. And then tragedy struck. Cindy Crawford disappeared from the public-eye, opting to take some time out to have a baby. I was crushed. Not only would Cindy and I never be together, but I had no more material to update my website with. Utterly defeated I started lamenting my loss on the site, which eventually led to a journal-type commentary, that would someday become marknam.com. So in a round-about way, I can attribute Cindy Crawford to every website I've made since, which is particularly amusing seeing as one of them is for the 8th Annual Christian Women's Conference, and the other for Cleansing Stream HK, a course which, amongst other things, deals with unrequited love. |
